Peace Comes From Within Do Not

"Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without" is not found in the Pali Canon or any authenticated Buddhist scripture. The Fake Buddha Quotes project (run by Triratna Buddhist teacher Bodhipaksa) has confirmed its absence from canonical texts. The saying was already circulating in Western publications by 1907–1908 — attributed there to Marcus Aurelius and described as a message of inner peace — before it was attached to the Buddha's name in a 1959 book. A loosely related Pali verse does appear in the Sutta Nipāta (4.14), but the popular phrasing is a modern composition.
